On Running a Pain 5k

USC Quench the Fire 5K Run & Walk 2008. Hosted by USC School of Medicine to benefit the USC Pain Center.

The first of hopefully, 52 races in the next year.  All dependant on the availability of a SoCal race of course, but I have high hopes.

I didn't do so bad or so good. It's been 2 months since I've done any serious running, so this was my intro back into the good life. My time: 29.04.

Good news! I managed to get there early enough to score a size small shirt. Something that is impossible to do if you don't show up an hour and a half early.

So also running in the race, besides me, were about 12 police cadets in training. So they started behind me, and ran in a block, a block.  They were chanting the entire way. Imagine how incredibly creepy and motivating it is to be chased and gained upon by a chanting cube of collectivism with a leader carrying a sharpened twelve foot metal pole.  Freeeaky.  My heart was pounding; I couldn't help it.

I managed to finish before them. Barely. Rude fellows too. Pushed their way through the line after we all finished. Couldn't wait to get back to forming forming a square again

I won a prize in the ensuing raffle. 2 gift cards to Jamba Juice. Also, after the race, Whole Foods served Zico. This stuff is pure coconut water. And I am officially a now a convert. I hate the sweet energy drinks and this stuff isn't sweet, but it's really yummy. Mmmmm. I'm buying more for surzez.
